It’s also an excellent gift for any sommelier or wine enthusiast. How to use a corkscrew? To open your bottle, place it on a counter, then remove the protective foil next to the spout. The foil should always be cut at the base of the wine bottle’s lip to prevent the wine from being contaminated by contact with the foil, which can alter the taste of the wine. Next, unfold the corkscrew by extending the worm until it forms a T with the two-hinged bottle opener. Hold the bottle with your non-dominant hand, then use your right hand to position the tip of the worm in the middle of the cork. Screw the corkscrew counterclockwise into the cork until the last loop of the worm is just above the top of the cork, making sure to keep the worm straight as you do this. Once the notch on the lever is positioned over the neck of the bottle, pull the handle until the cork is firmly seated. Pull the lever arm back so the corkscrew is in a T shape again, then pull firmly on the handle. The cork should pop out of the bottle naturally.Shake and twist the cork slightly as you pull it upwards if it offers any resistance. Finally, twist the cork counterclockwise to remove it from the worm. While you might be tempted to finish quickly and insert the entire cork if it breaks, this can cause it to break and create even more difficulty. Instead, gently and carefully try to twist the corkscrew in the initial groove, without applying too much pressure, and begin to pull it up. If the cork is completely swollen or begins to disintegrate on your second attempt, push it fully into the bottle. You can then pour the wine through a triple layer of cotton, a coffee filter, or even a skimmer to catch any particles before drinking. Decanting the wine into a carafe: Once uncorked, you can pour the wine into a decanter or a pitcher for aeration. If you decide to serve it only in a wine glass, equip yourself with a pourer to avoid wasting a single drop of the delicious liquid. If you can’t finish your bottle of red wine, you can use a wine pump to preserve the aromas for several days. + Learn more
